Frequently asked homeschooling questions
What curriculum do you follow?
We facilitate the CAPS curriculum provided by Mindscape Education, an accredited provider with IEB, ensuring students receive a recognised and quality education.
How does it work?
Students attend the centre Monday to Thursday 8:00-13:30 for structured lessons with qualified teachers.
Why do students work from home on Fridays?
This allows students to complete homework and assignments on Fridays and they can contact teachers via Whatsapp for assistance. Then students can enjoy their weekend – it promotes a better work-life balance.
My child needs concessions like a scribe and reader, can you assist?
Yes! Once concessions are approved, we’re here to support your child. Parents are responsible for any additional charges, but we’ll handle the rest.
My child has been bullied in previous schools, how can you help?
We pride ourselves on creating a safe environment for ALL students. Our strict zero-tolerance bullying policy ensures every child feels secure. Our small groups let us address issues immediately, creating a caring, positive space for everyone.
My child has ADHD and can't sit still or focus
Our teachers use strategies like breaking tasks into smaller, manageable steps, incorporating movement breaks and using visual aids to keep lessons engaging. Students also have access to alternative seating, fidget tools and “body breaks” to help maintain focus. We work with each student to find the support that suits them best, allowing them to feel comfortable, stay engaged and succeed in a way that fits their unique learning style.
My child is very shy and doesn’t ask for help
Our warm, relaxed environment helps even the shyest students feel comfortable. In our small classes, they’re more likely to join discussions and ask questions. Teachers are available during breaks and during homework supervision for extra support, and they’re focused on building each child’s self-confidence.
My child is so anxious/depressed, how can you help?
We believe mental health comes first. Our teachers work closely with students on time management and study plans, offering guidance whenever they feel overwhelmed. We listen, validate their feelings and teach calming techniques, like breathing exercises, to support their emotional well-being.
Do you offer aftercare?
Yes, we provide daily homework supervision from 13:30 to 14:30 at no additional cost, with teachers ready to help students work through assignments.
How do I register/enrol?
The first step is to schedule a meeting with Kaylene to discuss your child’s unique needs. Next, we will arrange a trial day to ensure our centre is the right fit for your child. If everyone is happy, registration with Mindscape and the Ed-You-Zone contract can be completed online.
